5 Dresses Perfect for Midsize Women

Top 5 Midsize Friendly Dresses

I don’t know about you but I love wearing dresses! They always make me feel extra feminine and they are something that will never go out of style. As a midsize woman though at times it can be challenging to figure out which dresses look best on our shapes plus dress trends change all the time so it can be difficult to know what to wear and when! Luckily for you I am your fashion guinea pig and always ready to try different styles, colors and shapes. Below I found 5 awesome dresses for this fall that I think you will love just as much as I do! As a friendly reminder too your body is not fashion so I encourage you to experiment with your style and have fun with these trends. You never know what you may end up loving!

Best Little Black Dress for Fall

I actually got this dress last fall in brown and loved it so much that I got it in another color! I think the black is even better than the brown because it is incredibly versatile. I wore my black dress for the pumpkin patch with cowboy boots and I plan to wear this dress again with a lower heel for Christmas. The reasons why I think this dress is so great and versatile is the quality and the shape. While it is an Amazon dress, it has pockets and it’s lined so you won’t be accidentally exposed. It’s also super flattering with the slight flare at the skirt and the long sleeves are super cute. This style of dress is easy to dress up or down and is a great option too for a date!

Top Black Satin Slip Dress

I think I should preface that black is my favorite color since I’m sharing two similar dresses in a row! Nonetheless I adore this black slip from Target. It’s a soft satiny material with a slit up the leg making it easy to walk around in. At an affordable price point I think this is a great find for both the office and a night out. I also love how it skims my curves it’s so comfortable and can be easily dressed up and down. For the weekend, I would add a denim jacket and sneakers and for the office try some boots and a blazer! It also would look great with a big sweater over top and tall boots like I wore above!

Corset Inspired Satin Midi Dress

Continuing on the midi train is this sexier option from Abercrombie! I absolutely love Abercrombie’s wedding guest dresses, I got a few for my friends fall wedding and they made me feel gorgeous all weekend! For a rehearsal dinner I wore this gorgeous plum option and at the time I layered it with a big sweater and boots. I also own it in blue and wore that option to the theater as well as a nice dinner! Elevated basics like these are essential to any wardrobe in my opinion and slip dresses are such a great way to be ready for any nice occasion. I know I am ready for a last minute event because I own this piece and when you pick a nice color you can wear it multiple times!

The Best Cocktail Dress Ever

I got this beautiful dress from Abercrombie as well and wore it to my best friends wedding earlier this month! I felt like a million bucks in it and love the rich green color. This is certainly a wardrobe staple for me especially in the colder months. It’s a bit more cocktail party inspired and perfect for any sort of city activity. I enjoy styling mine with cowboy boots and blazers but you can dress it up even more with a stiletto or block heel and a nice coat. If you have nice plans for a holiday party or New Years Eve I think this is the perfect garment! Oh, and there is some draping around the midsection which is a dream for camouflaging your stomach if that is an insecurity of yours.

Pro Tip: be careful with this dress. I got some sort of stain on mine which was not ideal at the wedding. I would consider having a shout sheet at hand if you bring this to a special event and are accident prone like me. It never hurts to be cautious!

Dreamiest Maxi Dress for Formal Occasions

Our final item is yet another Amazon find and boy is it a good one. I love how this dress has a low open back, I think it’s beautiful and a bit unexpected for a column piece like this. Coming in this gorgeous green tone, I think this is the dream holiday event dress if you have something on the fancier side coming up. I like styling mine with a simple heel or boot and an unexpected piece of outerwear like a boyish blazer or a leather jacket. I think elegant and simple dresses are the perfect base for a fun outfit and can take many different forms depending on your style.

Pro Tip: be careful when tying up this dress at the neck. If you go too high the cowl will not look right and your bust will be tight instead of skimming. The key here is to have a bit of looseness so the whole dress cascades down your body.
