3 Midsize Outfits to Actually Keep you Warm in Winter

Midsize Winter Outfits to Keep you Warm

Are you a midsize girl that struggles to come up with cute outfits that also keep you warm? I have certainly been there and while it can be challenging dressing for the weather without looking too bulky, there are some fashion tips and tricks I will bestow upon you in this post. The key to a successful cold weather outfit is mixing chunky warm pieces with something fitted to preserve your warmth. I also recommend playing with layers to take off and on depending on what you are up to. Now, to see what I have been wearing during the recent cold snap, keep on reading!

Layered Black and White Outfit for Winter

Amidst the snow and ice I have had several business meetings in my city and for these occasions I always make sure to dress up to some extent. I live by the adage when you look good you feel good and I have forever been partial to the quote “a first impression is a lasting impression”. With that said, I know styling a midsize body for cold weather can be challenging. That is why I opted for layers in this outfit, the key is a fitted turtleneck long sleeve underneath a big sweater. When you wear tight base layers you will keep yourself warm and won’t add bulk under a knit or outerwear.

Another key is adding fitted pants to this sort of outfit. I am pleased to say black skinny jeans are coming back in style so it’s been great breaking them out again. I also like wearing them under big sweaters because I don’t have to worry about cropping the top or tucking it in. I will say you would want to tuck in a taller boot on the bottom to keep you warm. It can be a bit reminiscent of the 2010s but if you opt for a trendier boot like a cowboy boot or lug boot you should be good to go!

Mix and Match Textures in an Outfit

The next outfit option is playing around with textures to stay warm. This could look like pairing fleece with wool and a puffer or leather with a knit and sherpa. The best part about wintertime is this season’s focus on fun fabrics with various weights and textures. For the majority of the year delicate fabrics are in but this is such a fun time to play around with leathers and wools and natural durable materials.

For the most interesting outfits, consider playing around with different colors and shapes in these unique materials. I like styling fitted pleather pants with giant sweaters and coats or big baggy jeans with bodysuits or hoodies. The best type of outfit then takes these pieces and adds a fun piece of outerwear to really make a statement. This is also a great time to incorporate fur coats to truly add personality to the look.

Emphasize Accessories to Complete an Outfit

The final key to a fun winter outfit is playing with accessories. This is the first year I really incorporated things like beanies and scarves into my daily outfits not only to keep warm but to also add personality to the looks. While it may be difficult wearing a ton of layers and garments on a midsize frame, I always find accessories to fit any body and they truly make an outfit complete. Whether you are going with leather gloves and tall socks or a chunky scarf and big hat, those finishing touches will make the most boring outfit exciting.

Another accessory that does not get talked about enough is the sunglass in winter. While they don’t exactly keep you warm, they do keep your eyes protected from those fleeting moments of sunshine. I also oddly like them with headbands and even ear muffs to keep you insulated from the elements. Again we want our winter outfits to work for us not against us in this crazy weather.

Stay Warm and Cozy

I hope this post inspires you to stay warm and cozy this winter! I know this time of year can be hard from a fashion perspective but I promise it doesn’t have to be challenging. The key to a successful midsize outfit is having fun with your style and ignoring what is “flattering”. Life is too short to listen to arbitrary fashion rules anyhow.
