3 Tips to Starting on Social Media in 2023

Top 3 Beginner Influencer Tips

I was recently chatting with my community over on TikTok and I received some questions regarding any tips for beginner creators in 2023. While I did get my start in 2019, I have gleaned a few bits of information over the years that I think would help someone become successful online. I will be real with you though, there is no hard and fast truth to social media. You really need to carve out your own space and remember that slow and steady will win the race. For my top three tips, keep on reading!

One: Just Start Somewhere

My first tip is to just start somewhere! Make a special account for your passion and share something you’re excited about. We all have something that makes us shine and for me that is fashion! I love talking about my outfits so that led to me creating a separate Instagram page and posting every day. Remember, we do not become perfect at something overnight and social media is an ever changing industry so try a bit of everything and see what sticks. You also may take some content you aren’t really proud of but the more you practice the better you will become. I am still learning new things about my editing style 4 years in and I am always pushing myself to try something new!

Two: You Don’t Need Anything Fancy

My trusty point and shoot from the Instagram photo days

When I got started, I thought I needed the latest camera and the fanciest lights to become successful online. What I really needed was my iPhone and some decent lighting! Sure high tech toys are nice but they are business investments that come down the road, not something a beginner needs in order to be successful. What you really need is decent lighting, a clean area of the house and something fun to talk about. I know it’s difficult talking to a camera but the more you practice I promise it gets easier!

Three: Consistency Is Key

My final tip and the biggest one I would argue is just to be consistent when you start. I feel like I have been as successful as I have been because I have shown up consistently for my audience and myself and that hard work pays off eventually. Whether this routine is posting daily for you or four times a week, getting into a posting groove is going to set you apart from so many who start and are inconsistent.

Pro Tip: To be sure you have adequate content for your schedule, be sure to plan ahead a bit and do some pre-recording. This could be a quick try on over the weekend or just talking about a passion for a few different videos. That way you aren’t stressed for posting options day of!

Best of Luck in Influencing!

I cannot wait to hear about your journey into influencer marketing! Again, it’s my favorite career and I am so darn happy with what I do. I know so many are intimidated by this field and our own inner critics can keep us from really pursuing our passions because we don’t know if the time is right or if we’d be good at it. I had to really talk myself into it with a friend because I had thought about blogging for YEARS before I finally decided to do it. Once I started though I haven’t looked back and I genuinely believe I’m doing what I’m meant to do. I think it’s possible for so many others, now is the time to just try and see what happens for you next!

Until next time,

Lauren
